This set was most likely made by the toymaker Ellis, Britton & Eaton in Springfield, Vermont but distributed by French and Wheat in New York City. Some historians speculate that this toy was created as a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln in the 1860's during the period of the Civil War. Commemorating his childhood spent in a log cabin. Some scholars also speculate that John Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous architect, played with this set as a child and went on to inspire him to invent "Lincoln Logs" in 1918 and create the Red Square Toy Company.
