The Reminiscences of Carl Schurz, children of Carl Schurz, published by The McClure Company in New York in 1908. Carl Schurz was born in Germany but became an American statesman, journalist, and reformer. He immigrated to the United States in 1848 and became a prominent member of the Republican party. He served as a Union General in the Civil War and was a advocate for civil service reform.
He was a United States Senator representing Missouri and was the 13th United States Secretary of the Interior. All 3 volumes are in very good condition. Covered in red cloth boards with gilt name on cover. Back covers have no design.
Back cover of volume 1 has some wear marks. Back cover of Volume 2 has a crease. There is minimal wear on edges and corners to covers. All volumes have hand cut pages. All volumes have previous owner bookplate adhered to inside front cover. There is age tanning on edges of pages and some staining from glue on endpapers on all volumes. Volume 3 has a tear on the end paper. Could find no other written marks or tears in volumes. 100% of all sale proceeds benefit the Hilton Head Library.
