For sale is an INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION of "Reminiscences of Forts Sumter and Moultrie in 1860-'61" written by Abner Doubleday and published in 1876! Inscribed by the author on the half title page, To Capt.
Watrous late of the 76th N. With the compliments of his old commander, the author! Watrous was a member of the 76th New York State Volunteers 76th N.
During the Civil War, and Abner Doubleday served as his commander! As for the author himself, Abner Doubleday fired the first shot in defense of Fort Sumter, the opening battle of the Civil War, and had a pivotal role in the early fighting at the Battle of Gettysburg! In addition to being an irreplacable piece of American and Civil War history, this book is in very good condition overall! There is some fraying to the original cloth and some staining to the rear board, but internally, the book is clean and bright! There is one tiny piece of foxing on the onion skin protecting the title page (mentioned for accuracy), but no other issues!
The book measures 7.5" x 5.25" x 0.75. This book was part of an incredible estate sale of a home in the Midwest that was built at the end of the Civil War.
