As indicated by the title, the author attempted to relate in detail the reconstruction of Mississippi. This, of course, refers to the times after the Civil War. His observations include views from political, military, economic, and legal phases. To get to the point of reconstruction, the author presents a brief review of the Civil War.

Critics contended that 1900 was too early to relate without prejudice the events of reconstruction. But Garner proposes that he was able to distance himself from personal viewpoints and feelings and present only the facts of the situation. This book is a fascinating "read" even today. The book has been rebound, but the interior is original and in very good condition, except for some pencil underlining which we attempted to show in a photo.
