He enlisted 6/15/1861 in Philadelphia. Joseph Levick was from Philadelphia and member of first numismatic clubPhiladelphia Numismatic Society. Rose to rank of Captain in Civil War. In 1864, he moved to NYC and was a banker. He formed the New York City Numismatic Society. Within a year that organization merged with the American Numismatic and Archeology Society.In 1866, he proposed the first numismatic journal in the US, American Journal of Numismatics. He died September 7, 1908.
