RARE Civil War Military Checks & Stubs From Assistant Treasurer New York U. S

  

This listing is for a connected pair of blank checks from Assistant Treasurer of the United States. The check is notated in the upper right with "ORDNANCE" in red.

This is a rare opportunity to own sequential checks (#5225 & #5226) from the treasury to be used on Ordnance (meaning: "Military Materials") in the Civil War. They have the image of Edwin Stanton, who was the Secretary of War under Abraham Lincoln. One of the stubs is partially ripped but they are attached to the checks (see photos).
