(NATIONAL GUARD STATE OF NEW YORK). The 22nd Regiment (and 7th Regiment) of the NGSNY took part in the Funeral of President U. Grant in New York City on 8/8/1885. The 22nd and 7th Regiments fired the volleys in the salute when the the coffin was placed into the tomb.There is no provenance that this sword or its then owner took part. But, hey, ya never know! Last name in the inscription is difficult to decipher. No date in the inscription.
