PERSONAL MEMOIRS OF P H SHERIDAN 1888 Antique 2 VOL SET Civil War, Indian Wars. This extraordinary two-volume set provides a unique look inside the life and mind of one of the most aggressive, most reviled, and most respected leaders of the Civil War and the wars against American Indians. Both books are packed with highly-detailed, beautiful, steel engraved illustrations. They include young and old pictures of Sheridan, several other officers, and even his favorite horse.

Many maps are printed on tissue-thin paper and bound into the book. VOL I includes a large map, "The Battle Field of Winchester, Virginia, " which was not bound in, but tucked inside the front cover, and has been lost from many sets. The cover is dark green, not faded by light. It features a magnificent gold-stamped engraved illustration of Gen. Sheridan waving his hat on his galloping charger. Inside both is a facsimile signature. A hand-signed copy would have two signatures, and I have never seen one. Volume II binding has come loose from the spine, but is still attached.

It simply lays flat when opened. VOL I binding is tight.

Both books have scuffed corners and edges typical of their age, but the pages are clean and not faded. All pages are tightly bound.
