The fife is a simple, six-hole flute that has traditionally been used for military purposes. Paired with a side drum, the fife was used to give signals to soldiers for all parts of their daily activities.
This Fife is approximately 16-5/8 Long and in Very Good Sound Condition with no chips or cracks. Unmarked, I could not find a maker's name on this anywhere but in my opinion, this is Firth Hall & Pond from Franklin Square, New York. Between 1839 and 1867, Firth Hall & Pond made fifes in New York and was a major supplier during the Civil War.
