ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR ENGRAVED CAPTAIN SWORD NY NEW YORK 173RD REGIMENT. Approx 36 1/2" overall with a 31 1/4" blade. Import blade, markings hard to read but likely Horster Solingen. Double etched, wear to blade / engraving but not damaged. Sharkskin grips with some wear on inside, good wire. Pommel has shield engraving and floral etches which match scabbard etchings. Metal scabbard has etched throat - Capt.

A 173d Regt / N. Floral etching on brass, drag has nice eagle and stars. Lots of patina, lots of small dings and wear, drag screw missing but still tight. Sword and scabbard fit tight.

Apparently Barwick served from 1862-65 with battles and most service in Louisiana. Rising from Sgt to Capt in different companies in the 173rd. Great piece of history worthy of more research! Please see my other auctions for more estate military items. Thank you and good luck!
