Offered is a wonderful Civil War document grouping that belonged to Captain George Norton Williams, Company K, 98th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment who lived in. He enlisted on October 10, 1861 and resigned with rank of Captain on June 3, 1863.

He was present during the Peninsula Campaign in 1862 and saw action at Fair Oaks. Two of the documents are duplicate handwritten copies of lengthy testimonies of intrigue and great division among the 98th New York that occurred in February 1863 which pitched George Williams on one side of the division with other fellow officers that most likely lead to his decision to resign in June 1863. These two documents lay out opposing views and scandalous accusations between several officers that were vying for command of the 98th at that time. Several of the documents have separations at folds that could easily be repaired with archival tape. The two testimonies are truly worthy of research and an article as compared to what the regimental history book reflects, particularly since it was written by one of the officers involved, William Kreutzer.

Kreutzer was interestingly promoted to Lt. On February 25, 1863 during the intrigue!
