LOVELL & COMPANY, NEW YORK, IN 1889 This original, First Edition, antique book presents a rich history of the State of New York in the War of the Rebellion. The intent of the book is to provide a history of the sacrifice and suffering, the patriotism and devotion of the Empire State in the great struggle for preserving the Union. In addition to a history of the contribution of the State, the book presents the histories of individual New Yorks units, and contains rosters of unit soldiers complete with summaries of their individual service. The conspicuous part taken by New York in all the great movements of the war; her magnificent contributions to the armies of the Union; her hearty cooperation in all the financial measures of the Government; and her generous aid in alleviating the miseries of the conflict are all well presented here in a single book to bring all the facts together concisely in a brilliant, comprehensive record. It is the aim of the author to provide this history and to present New Yorks share of the honors bestowed upon it and to indicate the privations of the struggle, and to present what a conspicuously honorable and glorious part she had in the triumph of the Union. The book presents a rich history of the units of New York. Further, it presents the honors won in battle by New Yorkers, both in the Army and Navy. It presents New Yorks losses in the war. It further presents, rosters of New York soldier that died during the war and their rank, name, and other data including the battle in which they died.

The book provides rosters and individual service records of hundreds of New York soldiers, organized by those in the State militia, Cavalry, Artillery, Engineers, and Volunteer Infantry. The book also contains rosters of the honored dead from the state. THIS BOOK IS IN VERY GOOD + CONDITION This scarce, First Edition, antique book is in nice overall condition. The book is bound in gray-colored, cloth covers with impressed, black lettering on the cover and spine, and of the seal of the State of New York on the cover. The cover has no bumping and has light rubbing, edge wear and soiling.

The spine lettering has faded, but can still be read. The interior is clean the pages are in excellent condition. There isn't a mark in the book; it has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps or pasteboards.

It is not an ex-library book. The book is solidly bound throughout. Both hinges are firm, but the front hinge has a paper crack.

The book contains unit histories, unit rosters and casualty information. It is an excellent source of New York, Civil War history including the service records of individual units and soldiers. Overall a very nice, First Edition book. HONORS OF THE EMPIRE STATE.
