Civil War Store Card for Robert T. Kelly, Hatter in New York City. Fuld NY630AN-1a (copper) R-3 Very Nice UNC ex Ken Bauer. Kelly obtained store card tokens from local token maker Emil Sigel. Sigel's initials appear on both dies used to strike this token.

For token production, the single custom die was combined with two seldom used stock dies. Each of these stock dies was used to strike tokens for only two other merchants. This is a somewhat uncommon variety though it is the variety most commonly encountered for this merchant.

It features a top hat, which is appropriate for this merchant since the token does not explicitly state that he is a hatter. This is an attractive uncirculated specimen. It was previously in the collection of Ken Bauer, an advanced token collector who contributed to both of the full color Fuld reference books for Civil War tokens.
