79th New York State Militia - 1860. Watercolor and Gouache on Bristol. Signed and dated by the Artist. 11in w x 14 in h. Here we have a soldier of the 79th New York Militia as they would have appeared in 1860, just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War.
This soldier is dressed in the regiment's ceremonial uniform that included a tartan plaid patterned kilt and a sporran made with goat hair. This shoulders are adorned with red and gold shoulder boards and a glengarry cap. Includes a Certificate of Authenticity with historical text.
