Read first hand what was happening in the US on the day of the official end of the Civil War (April 12, 1861-May 9, 1865) and about 1 month after the assassination of President Lincoln (April 14, 1965). It is a large 8 page (4 pages front and back) newspaper measuring approximately 16" x 23", which folds out to one big rectangle. The paper covers some important historical news including the following articles "JOHNSTON'S SURRENDER", "INTERVIEWS WITH JOHNSTON AND HARDEE", "COMING HOME - SLOCUM'S ARMY NEAR RICHMOND", "STONEMAN IN CLOSE PURSUIT OF JEFFERSON DAVIS" and more news on "THE TRIAL" of the co-conspirators in the murder of President Lincoln.
The paper is in Good- Condition. There is wear to the paper - there are many creases and tears along the edges.
There are a number creases and in the middle of the editorials, as well. The over 150 year old paper also suffers from some staining, browning, spotting and type fading. NOTE the tears across the fold on the front page. This is an incredible chance to read about our countries history on the original day it was reported!
