Colonel William S Grantsyne rose to command the 140th New York Zouaves which helped hold Little Round Top, Gettysburg July 2, 1863. An original letter from Colonel Grantsyne at Chicago, Feb 21, 1899 to 149th NY comrade Captain Porter Farley thanking Farley for sending him a copy of Farley's recent address to the 140 th NY comrades at the Gettysburg reunion; he recalls the battle events well, and how he led the boys home in 1865, and asks to be remembered to all their old comrades. 3pp 8 x 5 ink. Edge wear, age stains, 2 small punch holes in margin, Overall VG. Captain Farley was the author of the Little Round Top battle account & the biography of Colonel Patrick O'Rourke, killed on Little Round Top.
