LEE'S LIEUTENANTS; A STUDY IN COMMAND. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1942-44. Dark grey cloth hardcovers w/gilt titling to spines and front boards, 3vols. Editions, volume 1 signed by author on the front free fly-leaf, 8vo (9x6.125), Very good + / n. A previous owners small gift inscription on the half title page of v.

2 keeps this set from being designated in fine condition, very slight rubbing to corners and minimum age-toning, being less than expected for age, the only perceived flaws. Volume one is signed by the author. A photograph of Douglass Southall Freeman's tombstone in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond is dated on the verso as being taken in April of 1972. The photo is lain in the front paste-down/fly-leaf of vol.

1 with the author's signature. All maps and illustrations appear to be present, including the large foldout theater of operations map at the end of vol. Alas, as with so many of this set; there are no dust-jackets present. But yet still a marvelous Capture of Tyme and quite the distinctive set of books indeed.
