This rare, First Edition book constitutes a comprehensive history of the 40th (Mozart) Regiment, New York Volunteers. The volume contains the individual army records of nearly three Thousand Volunteers whose names are borne upon the Muster Rolls of the Regiment. It relates the story of the numerous battles and skirmishes in which the regiment participated, and traces the routes of its extensive and laborious marches through Virginia during the four eventful years of the Civil War, from Bull Run to Appomattox. It also contains portraits and biographical sketches of the three Colonels who conducted its movements and controlled its destiny, and pictures of many officers and enlisted me who were connected with the regiment and who shared its glorious achievement and exalted renown. The history is also interspersed with incidents and events which happened during the prolonged and distinguished service of this noted organization, and which entered into and forms a part of its remarkable military record. The book list each officer and soldier in the unit and contains summaries the Civil War service of each soldier. THIS BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE CONDITION This scarce, First Edition book is in excellent overall condition. Bound in blue-colored covers with the impressed image of the unit medallion on the cover and impressed, gold lettering on the spine, the book has solid binding throughout.
The exterior has no bumping, but has light rubbing, smudging and edge wear. The lettering on the spine has faded some, but can still be read.
The interior is in great shape. The pages are free of any writing, smudging or foxing. There is a small, prior-owner address label and what looks like residue on the front end page. The book is solidly bound; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are solid. The book contains portrait illustrations and contains lots of data related to the units service and to members of the unit.
There is a complete unit roster that includes specifics of Civil War service of each member of the unit. This is an excellent condition, nice, clean, solid, First Edition history of the 40th (Mozart) Regiment, New York Volunteers.
