Near fine book in very good dust jacket. SIGNED by the author on the verso to the half-title page. Gray cloth covered boards with gold gilt text against a bright blue background on spine.
Two small (dime size or less) very faint smudges on front panel. Upper external page edges are tinted dark blue. Internally clean and with snug text block.Dust jacket is darkened and with light soil overall, more darkened on folds and extremities. Tape residue/ghost wraps around spine just below publisher's name.
Tape residue also along edges of inside flaps. Upper edge at head of jacket spine is chipped with loss of up to 1/2 by 1/4"; closed 3/8" vertical tear along back corner and closed 1 closed vertical tear along front corner. Several small chips and rubs on lower edge at tail of jacket spine.
Fore-edge folds and corners are rubbed with minimal loss. Lower right front fore-edge corner has 1/4" closed vertical tear with an adjacent 1/4" closed horizontal tear. Several additional small chips and closed tears (1/4 or less) along upper and lower edges of front and back panels.
Inside front flap has price clip of 1" by 5/8". Dust jacket has date of 11/58 on rear flap as required of first state DJ.
Vol 2, Fredericksburg to Meridian. Very good plus book in very good dust jacket. Gray cloth covered boards with gold gilt text against a blue background on spine. Spine and extremities are lightly sunned. Front corner along upper edge at head of board spine is split and frayed; front corner at tail of board spine iis less frayed.Fore-edge corners are minimally scuffed. Dust jacket is darkened and with light soil overall, more darkened on spine, folds and extremities.
Fore-edge folds and spine folds are creased. Front edge of spine fold has a 3 vertical tear along the fold, reinforced with archival tape on the reverse side. Lower edge of jacket spine shows where a small rectangular label was pealed off.
Lower edge of front jacket panel has a 1/4" triangular loss with adjacent horizontal crease to further adjacent 1/4" closed vertical tear. Several small rubs, chips and closed tears up to 1/4 along upper and lower edges at head and tail of jacket spin. Minimal rubs on fore-edge corners.
Vol 3, Red River to Appomattox. Very good book in very good dust jacket.
Gray cloth covered boards with silver gilt text against a bright blue background on spine, blue background is minimally scuffed. Upper external page edges are tinted dark blue Faint darkening of extremities. Lower left fore-edge corner on back panel has small bump. Heavy text block is a bit shaken. Dust jacket is soiled overall.Extremities are sunned, more to on spine and folds. Upper left corner of front jacket panel has a 1 1/2 diagonal closed tear, reinforced with archival tape on the reverse side. Each corner at head of jacket spine has a closed vertical tear of approx. Upper right corner on back jacket panel has a 7/8 closed vertical tear, reinforced with archival tape on reverse.
Lower front corner of jacket spine has a 3/4 closed vertical tear, reinforced with archival tape on the reverse side. Small closed tears on lower right fore-edge corner of front panel has archival tape reinforcement on reverse. Inside front flap has 1 7/8" by 1 1/6" price clip.
