Original beautiful pair Quantity 2 (two) US Civil War Artillery Fancy Dress Epaulets for New York "6" Regiment or Division. Officers' pair with red braided 3 long fringe. Each epaulet measures: 8 3/4 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide across the oval shape end.

They also have a regimental disk; beautiful. 1 7/8 inches wide fancy brass rounded. With multiple fancy designs, and a large "6" in raised relief. On other end of top, are brass half-inch buttons with "Excelsior" printed at bottom of each small button along with the New York State emblem above it. There are elegant dark blue thin and thick braids around the outside ends.

Hanging down are 3 inch wide braided tassel strings. Brass edges with age patina around top of base and underneath. The red wool background on top is in very good condition for age.

Has a couple small areas of discoloration specially on one with just minor surface wear on the red field, and a couple of small moth holes. Blue braided attachment borders on top end has a couple of minor surface wear spots on one epaulet. But both blue braids are 95% to 98% fine. Red tassels 3 inch long on both 95% of 98% fine. Underneath has both brass attachment hooks to keep epaulets on uniform.

Silk lined shoulder pads still there; but with some shred area and holes. Bottom long areas have silk with missing areas and shreds. But, usually these issues aren't visible when you display since they are underneath. 140 years old silk lining is of course fragile. You can have them professionally restored on bottom or leave as is which is what I would do.

Also, there is the remnants of museum labels with coded numbers on metal underneath borders of both. Comes with original storage case. Metal (tin) oval box measures 10 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches high. Still has carrying handle, latch on front still there but keeper to cinch lid down broken off.

No manufactures' or soldiers' identification anywhere. Very hard to still find real Civil War Artillery Epaulets with the storage box.
