Civil War New York Depot Canteen withCover, Jack Chain and Stopper

  
This is a Civil War Model 1858 smooth side canteen issued by the New York Depot. The pewter spout has the initials "L E" clearly hand carved into it --- likely the soldier who owned the canteen. It has it's original heavy wool cover. The original stopper is secured with a jack chain. This canteen has survived in very nice condition.

The tin is solid with no visible holes, rust or seam splits. The wool cover is in very good shape with a small area of wear on one side (see picture).

There are shallow hip pushes in the center of both sides, which is evidence of its actual use.
