Civil War M-1858 New York Depot Smoothside Canteen

  

Very nice example of the Civil War M-1858 Smoothside Canteen, complete with its original cover, stopper, pewter spout, and sling. This example has its original jack chain, a feature most often associated with canteens produced by the New York Depot. Overall a very nice example that is iconic of the Union soldier, and even captured and used by their southern counterparts.

The canteen remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. The cover is structurally sound, with a few holes from light use. The sling remains unbroken, but does show signs of age and wear. The cork stopper is present, but has broken in two due to drying. The body of the canteen has a few large dents from actual use.
