It is dated November 26th, 1863 soon after the battle of Lookout Mountain which his Company participated in. The Transcript of the letter is below.
I received your kind and welcome letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you was well. Our boys have had a pretty hard time of it for the last 2 or 3 days a fighting the ____.
We have drove the enemy off from Lookout Mountain are after them yet. It happened by chance that I was detailed at Division headquarters and did not get into it. We are within 5 miles of Chattanooga. I cannot write much this morning but I will try and do better next time. Please write as soon as you get this and oblige your affectionate brother. Re-enlisted as a veteran, December 14, 1863; promoted to Corporal, July 1, 1865; mustered out with company, July 17, 1865, at Alexandria, VA. Letter is in nice condition. Written on single sheet of lined paper. A couple small and minor tears, with three horizontal folds and two vertical folds.See scans for item you will receive.
