This is a very rare CDV showing de Trobriand in uniform with sword at his side. The 55th insignia is clearly shown on his kepi. He most famously fought as a colonel of the 55th New York.

He led the 3rd Brigade of Birney's Division, 3rd Corps at Gettysburg putting up a spirited defense against assaults by General John Bell Hood. His brigade suffered heavy losses, with every third man being a.
