Pictured in this CDV view is Union General Silas Casey, the 1826 West Point graduate and Mexican War veteran who commanded a division during the 1862 Peninsula Campaign and wrote a well-known infantry tactics manual. In the image, Casey is seated with his sword resting across his elbow and lap. Only partially visible on the table to his side is perhaps a cap. On the verso is the imprint of Anthony's New York studio, with credit to Mathew Brady's negative.
The image measures about 2 3/8" x 4", with the top corners trimmed from a previous album placement. Please see my other items for more interesting photographs.
