James DeWitt Cutting, 2nd NY Cavalry by Addison/Washington. This fine, identified Civil War CDV image is that of 2nd Lieutenant James DeWitt Cutting, a cavalry officer from New York State. Cutting enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant and was commissioned into Company A, 2nd New York Cavalry regiment on Dec 9, 1861. On May 23, 1862, he was discharged for promotion as Captain and Assistant Aide de camp in the US Volunteers.

Captain Cutting served until Dec 8, 1864 when he resigned his commission. The cavalry officer presents a shoulder view length CDV image and poses facing to his right with an anxious look on his face. Image is sharp and clear.

He wears a dark officers frock coat that features shoulder straps of an officer of cavalry along with large staff buttons down the single button line. In the image, Cutting sports a mustache and a short chin beard. CDV boasts a BM of R. Addis, / Photographer, / McClees Gallery, / 308 Penna.

Strong soldier signature in black ink at the bottom of the CDV. CDV is in very fine condition and comes in a hard plastic sleeve. A great CDV of an identified cavalry officer from New York who wore the blue in the American Civil War. Includes Photograph, Autograph, and Plastic.
