The Battles and Leaders of The Civil War edited by Robert Underwood Johnson of The Century Company, 1887, 1st Edition, Volumes 1, 2 and 3 do not have Vol. The volumes belonged to a Confederate Veteran who served with the Louisiana Guard Artillery out of New Orleans and was attached to Hay's Louisiana Brigade during his service. Some where during time they came to be in the Club Library of the Northern Club that was located on the corner of City Hall Avenue and Granby Street in Norfolk, Virginia.

In 1937 they were given to Capt. Walter Irvine Jordan, USMC, by an uncle Alex B. The provenance of the 3 volumes having been owned by a Confederate soldier/veteran and the passing thru the years to a grandson is evident. All three volumes measure 8" x 11 1/2", volume 1 is 750 pages all intact with no writing except for names of family members, has bookplate for Northern Club on front end page, no folded or torn pages, binding is tight, leather covered hard boards and spine, has age/shelf wear, see scans for details/condition. Volume 2 is 760 pages and Volume 3 is 752 pages, both are in the same condition as Volume 1. All three volumes are profusely illustrated. Letter and envelope is included with the books.
