Items descended from the Civil War veteran, William H. Armstrong, who served with the First New York Mounted Rifles. Research indicates that Armstrong received several promotions during his Civil War service, achieving the rank of 2nd LT.

His regiment fought in 116 actions during the Civil War. 10/2/1861 mustered into "B" Co.

NY 1st Mounted Rifles, 12/1/1863 Re-enlisted, mustered out 7/21/1865 at Richmond, VA. Old Vintage 13 Star U. Cotton stars applied to both sides of field, canvas hoist, metal grommets. (an easily framable size for display).

Condition: soiling, staining, color bleeding, wear and tears indicative of outdoor use--possibly at GAR encampments. 1909, 43rd National Encampment GAR - Salt Lake City Utah Representative Medal - with Abraham Lincoln medallion. (1-2/4" x 5-1/2") Condition: soiling, staining, scuffs, edge wear.

1920, 54th National Encampment GAR - Indianapolis, IN Representative Medal - with Benjamin Harrison medallion by Whitehead & Hoag Co. (1-3/4" x 5-3/4") Condition: soiling, staining, scuffs, edge wear. HONORARY Veterans of Foreign Wars medal (1-5/8" x 3-1/2") Condition: soiling, scuffs, edge wear. Grand Army of the Republic Veteran Medal (1-3/4" x 3-3/4") Condition: tears to US Flag silk ribbon, light soiling, scuffs, edge wear.

GAR metal pin (2-1/2" x 1-1/2"-light soiling, scuffs, wear). GAR insignia patch, embroidery on wool fabric (3-1/4" x 1-7/8"-soiling and edge wear). GAR kepi hat 1871 issue?
