For sale is a copy of pre Civil War era large size antique American HOLY BIBLE with full tooled leather covers. It is printed in the year 1859 by the American Bible Society in New York. It was a present to a teacher named Mrs. Mary Christie by her pupils at NC Sabbath School in Edenfield. The Copy is large in size, measuring 11 by 8 for the cover size, roughly 3 thick.

The bible is in great antique condition. The front and back cover are both full leather and in good shape.

The leather cover has no visible cracks where the covers meet the spine. Such an excellent preservation state is rare to find for bibles of this age. Common age related sign of rubbing is present. All pages seem to be complete. There are foxing, yellowing, staining in this copy commensurate with age (mostly for the front pages, less so for later portions).

But It is relatively clean and undamaged by water or dampness. There is a weakness in the binding around half way into the pages, perhaps because it was opened to that position for display over a long period of time. The leather cover is strong around that area so no separation.
