Antietam Maryland CIVIL War Battlefield Commission 23rd New York
Sergeant Eben E Crocker from Corning, New York sevred 2 years with the 23rd New York infantry including the Battle of Antietam, Maryland. An original battlefield commission issued at "Camp near Sharpsburg", September 18, 1862, the day after the Battle promoting Eben Crocker to Sergeant, Company D. The 16 x 11 commission with Federal eagle illustration, signed by Colonel Henry C Hoffman and by Adjutant William Hayt. Colonel Hoffman was brevetted Brigadier General for War Service, and Adjutant Hayt was later Colonel of the 189th New York, until his death at City Point, Virginia in 1864. The commission has archival repairs on the reverse folds, age stains, edge wear, and is Overall VG.
