A List of the Union Soldiers Buried at Andersonville, Copied from the Official Record in the Surgeon's Office at Andersonville by Dorence Atwater. This compilation of the Union soldiers who died in the Confederate prison at Andersonville was made in secret by Dorence Atwater, himself a prisoner, who made and hid the list with the assistance of Clara Barton. The list was published after the war so that families could locate the remains of soldiers who died at the prison. The alphabetical list is sorted by state, and includes the name of the soldier, the grave marker number, the company in which he served, date of death and immediate cause.
