Strong Vincent's forces on the union left of the line. Vincent, brave and capable, was instrumental to the eventual Union victory; he impressed upon the commander of the 20th Maine, Lt.

Joshua Chamberlain, the importance of his position on the brigade's left flank before attending to the brigade's right flank where he was wounded, and eventually died. The book also includes battle accounts written by Chamberlain.

This antique book presents an excellent history of the 44th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Formed in mid-1861, and mustered in on August 30, 1861, the regiment wore an Americanized Zouave uniform and fought in the Peninsular Campaign, the battles of Second Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, and at the Siege of Petersburg. It was mustered in in October 1864 with its recruits being transferred to the 140th and 146th New York Volunteers.

THIS BOOK IS IN FINE - CONDITION This book is a facsimile reprint of the original, first edition book published in 1911, with a new introduction. The book is in excellent condition and is as nice as the day it was published, but it has a small, prior owner name/address stamp on the front, inside cover. The book is in mint condition otherwise. The book is out-of-print by the publisher. The book is handsomely bound in black covers with bright, gold lettering on the spine and the image of two crossing flags on the cover.

The exterior has no bumping, rubbing or edge wear. The interior is clean and in excellent condition. There isn't a mark in the book.

The pages are bright white and in excellent condition otherwise. The binding is solid throughout.

The book is illustrated throughout and has numerous photographs of unit members. It contains a unit chronology and also contains a detailed roster of the unit with the details of Civil War service for each solider.
