Grant in Two Volumes, Charles L. Webster & Company, New York, 1885, two frontispiece depicting Grant as a younger man and in older age, one fold-out letter plate, multiple full-page maps and cartouche engravings, original calf skin leather bindings, 9.5 x 6.5, thick 8vo.

Volume one: Moderate wear to extremities with heavy scuffing to corners and and surface of leather. Instances of peeling at edges. Numerous scuff marks and areas of light soiling to surface.

End bands chipped significantly with loss at head and tail. Joints tender with splitting at inner hinges. All edges marbled, albeit toned. Interior lightly toned with scattered foxing, particularly at plates. Fold-out plate in good working order. Moderate wear to extremities with heavy scuffing to corners and and surface of leather. Red crayons mark slashed along front board. End bands scuffed slightly with dryness. Joints tender, rear joint cracking and nearly detached.

First edition of both volumes with 49 maps and illustrations, including two steel engraved portraits and two etched views, all with tissue guards. An important historical memoir of the Civil War, arguably considered Grant's magnum opus. General Norman Schwartzkopf called this the finest memoir of war experiences that has ever been penned.
