Moderate wear to extremities with scuffing at corners and endbands. Decorative spine depicting Ellis in uniform with skull and crossbones!

Old hand ownership on second fly leaf. Tissueguard on frontispiece is slightly soiled with small section missing at left corner, but intact. Light toning to text with minor instances of foxing.

Leaves 193-216 pp are attached by top cord only. Some dampness staining to rear of text. Too many of the Hollywood-like escapades of Ellis seem exaggerated, but this account throws light on divided sentiment of East Tennessee through the war.
