Published in New York by E. 1867 brown blind stamped cloth, 762pp, 9.5 x 7, 8vo.

In fair condition with some wear and tear to exterior. Some chipping to the head and tail of spine, and edges of boards. Some remnants of ex-library markings, including the remains of a Bigelow Free Public Library label on the front board and a spine label. Inside the front board on paste-down are dates of patron check-outs, and on the chipping and toned end pages.

Hand-written cataloging numbers and library stamps remain on end pages and through until title pages. Some general age-related toning and foxing to frontispiece and throughout folio. Includes twenty-four steel portrait illustrations, featuring figures such as Jefferson Davis as the frontispiece, Robert E. Lee on page 338 and "Stonewall" Jackson, among others on page 490.
