Sermon commemorative of Justin R. Huntley delivered October 23, 1864. Together with Memoir and Letters.

Albany: Weed, Parsons and Company. Octavo, 65 pages, publisher's original semi limp gilt lettered black cloth. Some damage to the cloth, minor discoloration, else in very good condition. Justin Raynor Huntley, born in 1828, was a Confederate captain in the 55th North Carolina Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. He met his end on July 1, 1863, during the Battle of Gettysburg, in the skirmish near McPherson's Woods. This battle, one of the war's most pivotal, ended in a Union victory. Initially buried on the battlefield, Huntley was later reinterred in Richmond, Virginia's Hollywood Cemetery, his life and death emblematic of the profound impact the Civil War had on individuals and communities across the nation.
