AND THE BATTLE OF BULL RUN. (A Letter To An English Friend). Octavo, 8-3/4 inches high by 5-3/4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in pebbled red cloth titled in gilt on the front cover. The covers are rubbed and the head & tail of the darkened spine are slightly chipped. 124 pages & 12 pages of publisher's ads, with 5 folding maps inserted. A remnant of an early bookseller's label is affixed to the bottom of the front endpaper, there is a pencil note at the top of the front pastedown and an early owner's name is penciled on the front blank. There are minor slits to the joints. The overlapping front edge of the first folding map is chipped and there is occasional foxing. First edition, with an image of the Confederate flag tipped on to the title page. [Confederate States of America] on the title page and on the front cover is composed of the crescent, star, and palmetto palm of the South Carolina state flag as well as an alligator, snakes, etc.
