Poetry Selected/Edited by John Williamson Palmer MD. This is probably the most beautiful poetry book you could own or gift. It is Folk Songs, a fabulous collection of writings from the most famous and intimate poets in history. This collection was published in 1861 by Charles Scribner of New York.

The cover is embossed leather. The pages are gilt edged on three sides. Full of wonderful illustrations and handwritten facsimiles, this book was dedicated by the editor to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There are more, but you get the idea! The book is in very good condition for age. The cover is of gilt embossed leather with five raised ribs. The leather shows some wear at hinges, edges, and corners. The outer and inner hinges are intact.

The leather outer hinges are somewhat fragile and should be handled delicately. All pages are bound and in very good condition without significant foxing.

There are no dog-eared or torn pages. The pages are gilt edged, with an embossed pattern, on all three sides. The first blank page shows a penciled gift inscription, "A Merry Christmas, To Steve & Jenny, Dec'63", this being 1863. There are 466 printed pages including index and several illustrated plates by John Gilbert.

The book measures 10 1/4 by 7 inches. It weighs about 4 1/4 pounds.
