The cover is of gilt embossed leather with five raised ribs. The leather shows some wear at hinges, edges, and corners. The outer and inner hinges are intact. The leather outer hinges are somewhat fragile and should be handled delicately.All pages are bound and in very good condition without significant foxing. There are no dog-eared or torn pages. The pages are gilt edged, with an embossed pattern, on all three sides.
The first blank page shows a penciled gift inscription, "A Merry Christmas, To Steve & Jenny, Dec'63", this being 1863.
