1850-60-70 Sheet Music Stephen Foster Henry McCaffrey Civil War Songs

  
A bound collection of music and songs from the 1840s to the 1860s and -70s containing such old hits as Tramp! As sung by Edwin Kelley, Polly Perkins of Paddington Green by Harry Clifton, both Just Before the Battle and Just After the Battle, both by George Root, anthems of the War Between the States, Nora ONeal by Will S. Hays, When You and I Were Young, Maggie, songs by Stephen Foster, George Root, Smiths March composed and dedicated to Gen Persifor F Smith, the Hero of the Contreras, both the Mystic and the Souvenir Scottische with vivid portrait covers of women, Come Home, Father by Henry Clay Work-and many, many more. The Grouping appears to have been bound by Henry McCaffrey, Music publisher and the songs date over a period of twenty years. There are a couple with full color covers as well as several with sepia tone covers, and, of course, several black and white Illustrated covers.

Many have been inscribed at top with the note, Presented to Miss M A Shaw compliments of H. Some have Miss Shaws name at the top.

There are one or two songs in rough shape, having chipped or been torn. Most are very good; they seem to be classics of the era with some notable Civil War tunes, and many others inside. Acceptable Condition: folio: binding separate from block with newspaper spine covering exposed: the exterior spine has been covered with heavy black tape over what appears to be a 3/4 leather binding with cloth boards and label: corners scuffed and damaged: corners bent and scuffed: label inside front from Henry McCaffrey, Music Publisher of 205 Baltimore Street: Some sheets have foxing, some sheets are torn with one or two songs having serious damage: inside the back, on the last sheet is a doodle dated June 11, 1889 and Ole Dan Tucker has been pasted to the back board: Bound Sheet Music of Miss M.
