Scarce pre Civil War Era imprinted pocket style Civil War era King James version New Testament in the classic'haversack' style, as shown, with gilt page edges. Original maroon leather with wallet style slip and catch, in great external shape, lightly rubbed at the edges and extremities with a small but of loss at the foot of the spine, as well as a small tear next to the tab, otherwise great.

Pages lightly toned, foxed and browned here and there in varying degrees, bound well. And in rear in the 1840s-50s by a Samuel Halstead and his sister Vesti Jane of Harrisontown, Wayne Co. Indiana, as shown, else unmarked. Samuel served in the 140th Indiana Infantry, Co.

K, in 1864; there is a good chance this Bible was carried through that very time! Measures 4.5" x 3".
