0653----CDV Phineas Gregory Queen City IA + Ridgeway NY - 29th Iowa Infantry. Incredibly rare CDV of soldier Phineas H. Gregory, a member of the 29th Iowa Infantry.
Identified on the reverse as P. I have researched Phineas and followed from his birth in Norwalk CT in 1829 to his move to Queen City IA and then back east to New York.He is recorded in the census of Queen City in 1860 and 1870. Curiously, he appeared in two census' in 1870, also showing up in the 1870 census in NY. This confirms his removal from Queen City in 1870. Phineas Gregory died in 1902 in Ridgeway NY, but stayed on the pension records until at least 1923. Queen City IA was considered an "abandoned town" as far back as the 1870s with the population never reaching 300.
In all probability this may be the only surviving Civil War photo of a Queen City resident. The CDV is in VG condition with some foxing on the front and back. A very clear photo of Phineas in uniform. Please review all of the research materials I have presented.
