Miss / Mrs Slade 1 copy. With frame (crossed out) no. Records show a Sylvester P. Slade who had voluntarily enlisted in just outside of Syracuse NY. In Baldwinsville on August 24th 1861.
Sylvester re-enlisted on December 25th 1963 and would see out his entire service with the 1st Regiment New York Light Artillery (Battery B). Known as "Petit's Battery", they saw action at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania, and Petersburg. At the Battle of Gettysburg, Battery B participated in the defense of Cemetery Ridge against the famous Confederate attack on July 3, 1863 known as Picketts Charge. Sylvester mustered out of the military June 18 1865, passing away at the age of 70 (1909) in his hometown.
