Civil War Drum made by Wm. S Tompkins & Sons Yonkers NY 1863
William Tompkins and sons drum hand dated June 1 1863. The overall size is about 17 1/2 by 14 1/2 tall. The shell is about 16-1/2 by 13 tall. Rope is new correct replacement hemp drum cord. Two original leather ears remain. Linen snares are old post war replacements. Holes in top head, split in bottom head. Some breaks/cracks in 2 ply shell as shown in photos. Old sheet metal repair to hoop. One crack under a rope hook. One iron hook is a replacement. The rest of the iron hooks are original. The shell is two ply with mahogany outer ply with two types of wood inlay maple and? With bone or ivory vent hole grommet. I lightly cleaned the shellac finish on the shell with denatured alcohol as there was some white haze. Other than that and the one replacement hook and replacement hemp, I tried to keep it as original as possible. The item "Civil War Drum made by Wm.
