We appreciate the opportunity to earn your business. This is a RARE Civil War Leather Belt State of New York Buckle Cap Pouch Bayonet & Scabbard. Mid war State of New York belt rig that consists of a SNY buckle on its original leather belt with brass keeper on the end. 58 caliber bayonet in its original leather scabbard all in very good, field used condition. The SNY buckle is the wartime manufactured piece that has the very narrow letters and arrow hooks on reverse. The original owner has carved a series of vertical and horizontal lines in the lead on the back of the buckle. This belt plate has one small bent area above the letter "Y" and has a very pleasing and mellow overall age tone to the face. The belt is a bit fragile in one area. The original brass keeper is firmly affixed to the end of the belt by the four original flat prongs. The cap box is the variety with the high scalloped edges on the outer flap terminating in the closure tab. The brass finial has pulled through the bottom of the box but is still attached to the hole in the closure tab. The tab is completely in tact and not torn or damaged. Both belt loops are still present on the back side of the box. The bayonet is the standard Civil War. 58 caliber Springfield model in leather scabbard. With a 7 rivet frog. The leather is in sound condition with most of the stitching having become undone. Along the back side as can be seen in the photographs.
The bayonet is in very good condition. And complete with functional locking ring. It is marked with the U. At the recasso and the blade. Is mostly bright in finish with some age spots throughout.
This is a beautiful looking belt rig that has obviously been together since the end of the Civil War. And is just as it was when the soldier took it off and stored it at the end of the war. Buckle is brass and measures: 3 1/4 by 2 1/8 inches. Hooks still in tact on back. Cap pouch is leather and was used to hold ammunition.
Interior leather in great shape. Exterior shows wear (see pictures). Belt is leather and is in fair shape. It has one split on one end. Leather is flaking in sections.
Bayonet is in excellent condition. Comes with leather scabbard which shows wear. The item "RARE Civil War Leather Belt New York State Buckle Cap Pouch Bayonet & Scabbard" is in sale since Sunday, January 20, 2019.
