Henry Hubert Hitchcock was a young patriot from Otisco, near Syracuse, New York who enlisted 1861, was wounded at Ball's Cross Roads, Virginia, and died of illness at Washington, Sept 1861. A charming Civil War letter to Hitchcock from "Nellie C", June 26, 1861 (Nellie Curtis, Syracuse NY), anxiously awaiting his letters, worries about his safety, waxes indignant about the privations the volunteers suffer, hopes "the other side" are as remiss, also gossip & Syracuse news, visit with friends Litchfield, Carpenter & Woods to South Bay and saw the influx of hard looking colored "contrabands" etc. Stain on upper right margin, overall VG.
