Original US Civil War Federal M1858 canteen New York Depot contract

  

Original US Civil War, Federal, M1858 canteen - New York Depot contract. Original folded/sewn linen shoulder strap is full length with no breaks. It is soiled from use, there are a couple of small stains, and a couple of small partially torn spots (photos 3 and 4), but it is unbroken and all there with no repairs. Original brown jean cloth cover is also complete with seam still completely stitched, and no holes or repairs.

It is also soiled from use but presents very well. The smooth side canteen body has a pewter spout, and hole in each of the upper sling guides where the original iron stopper chain attaches on one side (a hallmark of the New York Depot contract canteens). There are a couple of typical dents in both sides of the canteen body, but they are not noticeable through the cover, and do not detract from display. This is really quite a nice, complete, and all original Civil War Federal Canteen and it displays very well. Thank you for looking at my item and good luck.
