Description: Original war-time button of the 79th NY Cameron Highlanders. Professionally conserved by me (see below). Details/notes: Brass alloy; brazed iron shank; no visible back mark; pre-1860 manufacture; slight push from service use to large thistle bloom area (see photos); recovered by a former colleague in Washington DC where the regiment spent the early part of the war on defense duty.

Though now visually disabled, I still professionally clean and conserve historic uniform buttons as a hobby using only museum-prescribed mechanical cleaning techniques. This means no chemicals of any kind are used to clean the artifacts I sell - ever.
