The following is an authentic Civil War Prison receipt for a deserter in The Union Army. This receipt acknowledges receipt of one Charles Slausson of The 176th New York Volunteers. The document states that the prisoner has been received from The Provost Marshal General and delivered to Fort Columbus prison in New York Harbor on January 18, 1863. The document is signed on the bottom by 1st lieutenant James Casey and signed by the prison on the reverse.
