VERY RARE and EXCELLENT condition 1850 Presentation Foot Officers. Blade is etched over 2/3 of its length w/ various military & foliate motifs highlighted in gold. The ricasso is stamped with famous W.
CLAUBERG (Standing Knight) SOLINGEN" on 1 side & is etched "VIRGIL PRICE NEW YORK on the other side. Virgil Price was a well known retailer of military & Masonic goods in New York.Virgil Price was born on 18 Sep 1823 in Rome, New York and died on 11 May 1896 Long Island, New York. Virgil was many things during his life, including locksmith, blacksmith, brass company foreman, and silver plater. Some of his masonic sward's can be found but almost none of his military swords. Gilded brass hilt w/ heavy silver wire wrapped silvered grip. Extremely ornate gilded brass mounts on scabbard. Body of scabbard has a painted brown enamel finish. CONDITION: the blade has a gray patina w/ gold highlights primarily concentrated near the ricasso. Top 2 scabbard mounts retain most of their gold finish.
This is one of the most well rounded 1850 foot officers swords Ive seen. By well rounded I mean condition and beauty combined as well as its rarity.
Good Peen, hilt and blade as solid as the day it was made no looseness or rattling. Also previously belonged to Author Kevin Hoffman.
Sword is in pristine shape, no looseness or rattling, excellent peen. The scabbard is also in excellent shape with no dings.
